Kaplan, Kenneth Joseph

April 24, 1939 - May 3, 2018

Tribute

Kenneth Joseph Kaplan passed away suddenly in the presence of his loving wife in their home of 42 years in Tsawwassen on May 3rd.

He was born in Calgary as the son of a Royal Canadian Air Force reconnaissance photographer who fought for Canada in World War Two. They moved to Vancouver as a child where Ken would graduate from UBC as a mechanical engineer in 1963 then moved to Montreal in the pursuit of a career in Aerospace engineering with Canadair.

His love of flying led him into an aviation career becoming a commercial airline pilot for CP Air. He retired as a captain on the Boeing 747-400; the world’s most prestigious commercial airplane of its day.

Ken was a dedicated loving father with 5 children: Kenny, Kelly, Benjamin, Lesley, and Tyler and two grandchildren Gabriel and Ryder who brought immense joy to his life in the latter years.

Ken battled cancer for 19 years with the unwavering support of his loving wife Kandi who we all credit with this successful fight. As proof of his strength in character, Ken would never succumb to the disease despite the odds stacked against him.

He will always be remembered by his dedication to our family. His quick wit and sense of humor will be forgotten by nobody as his ability to make people laugh at home and in the cockpit was his brand that will carry his name into eternity.

The family will be forever grateful to the Cancer Society of British Columbia whose constant innovation, care, and dedication helped him through his battle. A special thank you to Dr.Chi and Nikita.

A Celebration of Ken’s life will be held at the Beach Grove Golf Club on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 @ 2pm. Flowers gratefully declined if you wish to gift the family please make a donation to the prostate center. Check payable to: Urology Foundation Mailing address:  Attn: Dr. Martin Gleave, DHCC, Level 6, Department of Urologic Sciences, 2775 Laurel Street, Vancouver BC V5Z 1M9
