Murdock, Michael Charles

August 18, 1947 - January 17, 2017

Tribute

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Murdock.  He died peacefully in his home on the evening of January 17, 2017, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.  He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Deborah Erickson, sons Geoffrey Murdock (Sarah) and Russell Murdock (Michelle), grandchildren Owen, Lucas, Josephine, Patrick, and Kate, and siblings Bill Murdock (Suzanne), Helen deJean (Fred Kettle), Janet Butler (Kerry) and Fiona Foster. Michael was an avid golfer, curler, hiker, and lover of all things outdoors.  He was fiercely proud of his Scottish heritage, played the bagpipes, and for a time was pipe Major of the Legion Pipe band.  Michael had a long career in the Finance Department at Simon Fraser University, and retired as the Treasurer.  A memorial service will be held Saturday January 21, 2017 at 1:00pm at Peace Lutheran Church, 2029 Ware Street, Abbotsford, BC, with Pastor Christoph Reiners officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
