Ron was born in Treherne, Manitoba, on November 26, 1946 and grew up in St. Claude, Manitoba, as the seventh of thirteen children. From a young age he worked hard on the farm and enjoyed country living. He moved to Victoria, BC in 1968 to join the Royal Canadian Navy. He married Odile Hince on July 18, 1970, and they raised their family in Victoria and Abbotsford BC. They were married for 45 years. Ron retired at the age of 49, then spent his retirement years traveling abroad with Odile and enjoying time at home.

In addition to the love for his family, travel and nature held a special place in his heart. Ron found joy in talking to friends and family, following sports, reading, doing crossword puzzles and watching birds. Unfortunately, Ron developed cancer, from which he had been suffering for 2 and a half years before he passed. He will definitely be remembered for his gentlemanly manner, his hospitality and generosity.

As per Ron’s wishes no funeral services will be held.

The family would like to thank Dr. Greyling, Dr. Bond, Dr. Schaikh, Dr. Singh and Dr. Duncan for their care during Ron’s last few years. They would like to especially thank the nurses in the palliative care unit at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre for their kindness and care in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Abbotsford Hospice Society 206 – 32555 Simon Ave, Abbotsford, BC, V1T 442 or by phone 604-852-2456.
