Tribute

It is with the greatest of sadness that our families announce the passing of “Bud”, a dedicated father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great uncle, and loving friend, after a courageous battle with asbestosis and emphysema.

Bud was born in St. James, Manitoba, on April 28, 1944.  He began his career in the truck and trailer industry as a heavy duty mechanic, and worked alongside his father at Fruehauf and Dominion Bridge in Winnipeg.  In 1969 he married his wife Annette, and in 1970 they moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where they raised three children and made their home for over twenty years.  During this time Bud worked as a service manager for Western Trailer and Tandem Distributors, and was well respected and admired by his talented and hardworking crews.

In the early 1990s Bud moved his family to Langley, BC, where he worked at Brentwood Trailers, then Advanced Engineering, and finished his career as service manager at Stewart Trailers.  Upon a well-earned retirement, Bud moved to Mission, BC, where he spent his years enjoying the outdoors, boating and camping and spending his summers on Vancouver Island with a multitude of family, including grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces, all of whom loved and adored him.

Bud was predeceased by his loving parents John Rowland (Rolly) Scarth and his devoted wife Elsie.  Together they spent many wonderful years at their cabin in Beaconia Beach with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins, playing and working together in the summer months and forging life long bonds.

He leaves to mourn his daughter Tracy Carver and husband Burt, and their children Jordan, Ariel, Drew and Hazel; daughter Dione Dolan and her children Jacob and Reese; and son Clint Scarth and wife Jeanett.

Bud is also dearly missed by his older brother Ron Scarth and wife Elaine, and their children Dave, Carla, Shelia and Sandra; his younger brother Ken Scarth and wife Linda, and their children Crystal and Darlene; as well as numerous grand nieces and nephews who loved his chats and boat visits.

In his later years Bud had many close friends who loved him dearly and held a special place in his heart:  Brian, Gary and Pam, Craig, Colleen, and Gail, all wonderful friends whose treasured visits, phone calls and numerous letters and cards brightened his days and brought many smiles.

His best friend and loyal companion was his dog Sparky who was by his side always.  Upon relocating to Mission, Bud adopted Sparky from the local SPCA, a Pomeranian cross who was five at the time.  Bud said many times that “I thought I was rescuing Sparky, but in fact he was rescuing me.”  Sparky has found a loving forever home with Fred, Bud’s neighbour and friend, a man who shares the same delight and joy in Sparky’s companionship as Bud did for many years.

In his retirement years Bud fulfilled his life dream of boat ownership and acquired a 19’ Custom Weld craft (in his favorite colour blue, of course!)  The first thing he did was aptly name it “BudWeiser”.  He loved his tours in his boat, cruising and fishing with his family and grandchildren locally in Harrison and Cultus Lake, and spent many summers moored on Vancouver Island alongside family.  Eventually he sold his boat and began travelling with his motorhome, and spent many a weekend camping and basking in the glow of both campfires and the love of his children and grandchildren.

Bud’s wishes of cremation have been honoured, and his children will be having a memorial on Saturday, April 23, 2016.
