Brunner (Thompson), Margaret Elizabeth

February 21, 1926 - February 7, 2015

Tribute

Today the world is a sadder place. Margaret peacefully left this earth with her children’s love and devotion embedded in her heart after living bravely with cancer.  She was the mother we all wanted, the daughter we all strive to be, and the friend who never gave up or never let you down.  Margaret was the sunshine on her beloved home, and on her summer retreat in Kelowna. She was the light in so many lives and for almost 89 years, she was full of goodness and love. The void of her physical presence will be replaced by the strength of her loving spirit that will surround us always. Margaret is pre-deceased by her husband Hans.

Margaret is survived by her four children, daughters Elizabeth, Anne (Kelly), Greta and son John (Maxine) will carry her in their hearts forever. In addition, her grandchildren Melissa, Lauren, Alanna, Curtis, Derek, Kristina, Evan and Arielle will miss her greatly as will her extended family and friends. The family wishes to express its gratitude to all Margaret’s many wonderful, kind, thoughtful, trustworthy friends and family who supported her throughout her illness.

We will never forget Margaret’s cheery, positive approach to life, her extraordinary memory, and sharp mind.  Margaret worked for Correctional Services of Canada, plus she continued to give back to her community by volunteering for the Community Policing Office, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Citizen’s Advisory Committee for Correctional Services of Canada, the Mission Historical Society and the BC Gymnastics Association.

Many deeply felt thanks to Dr. Nemanishen and Dr. Galbraith as well as the nursing staff of Mission Memorial Hospital for the outstanding care they all provided.

As per Margaret’s wishes, the funeral is private. If desired, as expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

My sympathy to Margaret’s family and the friends we shared in Mission. I loved Margaret for her generosity, her warmth, and her sense of humour. She was a great help and inspiration to me during some rough times in my life, and I will be forever grateful.

Many years ago while embarking on a career as a gymnastics judge, I would have been discouraged at the daunting task, but Margaret was a wonderful strong, calm and encouraging mentor. In the years we knew Margaret, we were impressed with her humour and kindness and we remember her fondly. Our condolences to her family. Phil, Mary and Leslie Horton.

Heartfelt condolences to the family on the loss of such a wonderful lady. She was a well liked, very strong woman who enjoyed life in our retirement residence Cedarbrooke Chateau/Chartwell Cedarbooke and was an inspiration to us all. I left my position as GM in October and was unaware that Margaret had lost her hard fought battle. May she R.I.P. and we all are all better for having known her 🙂
