My thoughts are with Des’s family. I really enjoyed working with Des, he was a great worker for CMBC with a quick wit and sense of humour. He went far too young and will be very much missed here.

This man epitomized to me all that is correct and good in this world. His undying love for his family is what will always stand out. He made a great impression on me as young man and I will never forget him. My condolences to the McDonnell family.

At this very sad time we send all our love to you from the UK; although we haven’t seen the “McDonnell Canadian Clan” since childhood the McDonnell family have such strong bonds that the love and connection has always been there and each has been there for the other in good times and bad – we all stand with you now. One of the first of the McDonnell’s to leave Ireland Uncle Desmond & Aunt Marie encouraged the rest of us to do the same. From that small boy in Belfast to the man he became – what stories are told about the McDonnell children of Jimmy and Annie! Uncle Desmond leaves a great legacy to the McDonnell family. Rest in Peace Uncle Desmond. Love Louise and Milko

My deepest Condolences to the McDonnell Family.
Des Sr coached me for many years at Club Ireland. I considered those years the best of my life, simply because of Des Sr for all his great qualities.
Thank you Des! RIP

I was glad to have met Dessie and enjoyed many humour filled conversations with him regarding the “Oul country”. I hope the family will be able to find rest and comfort for their souls in this time of mourning.

Although I did not know Desmond personally I worked with his son Aidan for a few years. Knowing and seeing the quaility of a man that Aidan is I can only say that Desmond must have been a good father and agood man.
